Mayor Jean Stothert made a solid case for a second term tonight at a debate sponsored by KMTV and the Omaha World-Herald.
She highlighted the fact that Omaha is a growing and vibrant city that is moving in the right direction under her leadership. 12,000 new jobs created, over 53,000 building permits issued with a value of $2.7 billion; effective public safety programs that have reduced homicides and shootings, and the city receiving award after award for excellence in customer service.
Communications director Dave Boomer said: “The mayor showed tonight why she has the trust and support of the voters. She showed time after time that she has an expertise over all city policies and has a proven track record of leadership and accomplishment.
“Mr. Mello’s performance tonight was mainly to complain and say he would ‘pause’ on major policies. He wants Omaha to be the city of the future yet doesn’t support managed growth or economic development projects that will lead the city into the future. There were no specifics from him on any issue.”
